Retirement Celebration Set for 45-Year SLU Staff Member

06/08/2018

Meg Kupferer has spent more than four decades helping students with everything from sorting out loans to gaining financial literacy. After 45 years at Saint Louis University, she’s beginning a new chapter as she retires from SLU as of June 30.

A retirement reception will honor her service to the University on Wednesday, June 13, at 3 p.m., in the Sinquefield Stateroom, DuBourg Hall.

While some might coast into their final days on the job, according to Cari Wickliffe, assistant vice president for student financial services, Kupferer has kept all cylinders running, taking on more and more new duties over the last decade.

“As a person, Meg is always willing to help,” Wickliffe said. “She takes on one new thing after another. She’s been part of watching students grow, and the University grow through enrollment.”

Kupferer’s roles have shifted as her office has fallen under the former University Bursar’s Office, Enrollment Management, and Student Financial Services. She is currently the University's student loans supervisor.

She’s walked undergraduate, graduate and law students through loan paperwork, billing issues, how to handle unexpected life situations and exit interviews. Most recently, Kupferer has also taken on working with students in the School of Medicine, financial literacy projects and heading up student cashiering.

“There is such dependability about her,” Wickliffe noted.

In addition to her professional service, Kupferer has contributed to the SLU community by applying her green thumb to University gardening projects and to organizing extra events from departmental celebrations to help for colleagues in need.

After nearly half a century of service, Wickliffe said Kupferer’s steady presence will be missed.

“We’re so excited for her, but we know that there will be a knowledge base she takes with her that will be difficult to replace,” Wickliffe said.
