11/29/2018
The Department of Pediatrics invites all interested faculty, fellows, residents, students, and staff to attend the 13th Annual Pediatric Science Days and Symposium, and to submit abstracts to the symposium.
This year’s abstract submission deadline has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14. The original abstract submission deadline was Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. The abstract submission guidelines are available here.
This year’s Science Days features Bruce Gelb, M.D., Gogel Family Chair and director of The Mindich Child Health and Development Institute, director of the Center for Molecular Cardiology, professor of Pediatrics and Genetics and Genomic Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Health System.
Gelb received his training at the University of Rochester Medical School in Rochester, New York, Babies Hospital of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine. He has dedicated his research career to understanding the genetic origins of congenital heart disease, with a focus on Noonan syndrome. More recently, Gelb has created a collaborative multidisciplinary research environment at the Mindich Child Health and Development Center to advance translational research on prevalent diseases of childhood, with an emphasis on the application of genetics and genomics towards the elucidation of underlying causes.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the E. Mead Johnson Award from the Society for Pediatric Research and the Norman J. Siegel Outstanding Science Award from the American Pediatric Society. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Science and the American Society of Clinical Investigation, and is a site principal investigator for the NHLBI Pediatric Genomics Consortium among other research leadership roles. He also directs the multidisciplinary clinical Cardiovascular Genetics Program at Mount Sinai, and is developing a pediatric precision medicine program at Mount Sinai, Pediatric Undiagnosed Disease Program.
