Provost's Office Seeking Mentor, Applicants for Mentoring for Mission in Teaching Program
Thanks, in part, to a Lilly grant, the Office of the Provost is soliciting applications for the second cohort of the Lilly Fellows Program, Mentoring for Mission in Teaching group. Applications are currently being accepted for approximately eight to 10 participants and for one mentor.
Details for each role and application process are described below.
Call for Applications: Participants
Cohort members will learn more about the University’s mission, Jesuit education, and Ignatian pedagogy with an aim toward developing interdisciplinary and mission-driven courses. All full-time SLU faculty members are eligible for participation. The cohort will represent an interdisciplinary group of faculty from across the University. Applications are due Monday, Oct. 29.
Expectations for Participants
- Program Period: Jan. 8 to Dec. 31, 2019. (Note: the cohort will not meet in the summer.)
- Required Meetings: The cohort begins its work with a two-day retreat on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 8-9, 2019 (8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Cohort members are expected to attend monthly 90-minute meetings during the academic year and a half-day course design workshop near the end of the Spring 2019 semester. Near the end of the program period, cohort members will participate in a capstone presentation experience in which they share the fruits of their course (re)design efforts with other members of the cohort.
- Departmental Recognition: Participation in the Mentoring for Mission in Teaching program will be recognized by the faculty member’s department, either with a course reduction or with a reduction in a significant portion of the faculty member’s University service for the duration of the cohort.
- Stipend: The grant provides a $500 stipend for participants.
Application Process for Participants
Interested faculty should send a brief application letter explaining why they are interested in participating in this group to facultyaffairs@slu.edu.
