Campus Demolitions Underway Per SLU's Master Plan
Several demolitions on campus this spring will make room for improvements called for in the University’s Master Plan, including a future classroom building to be built on North campus.
Demolition work began earlier this spring and is expected to be complete by June. A total of five buildings will be removed.
The removal of O’Brien and Pruellage halls makes room for the planned classroom building.
Other structures owned by the University, including a building that previously housed Diablito’s restaurant, a building that most recently housed The Shack restaurant on Laclede Avenue and a two-family flat located just west of Beracha Hall, are also part of the demolition plan.
Much of the land will be green space in the near-term but could also be used in the future for other campus needs.
About SLU's Master Plan Document
The first campus master planning process in nearly 30 years began in 2016 and examined facilities needs for the following 10-20 years.
More than 300 members of the SLU community provided input on the plan during open forums. The resulting plan was shared in September 2017. (View a Tegrity recording of the plan presentation.)
Recent updates to campus, including new residence halls, the crosswalk improvements along Grand Boulevard, and the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building currently construction, were called for under the plan.
