Fall Move-In: What You Need to Know
08/07/2020
The residence halls are ready, and the entire campus community is excited to welcome Saint Louis University’s newest Billikens and their families to campus during Fall Move-In.

What to Know About Move-In
- New students will arrive Tuesday, Aug. 11, Wednesday, Aug. 12 and Thursday, Aug. 13.
- Returning students will arrive Friday, Aug. 14, Saturday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16.
COVID-19 Testing and Safety Protocols
- As announced in a message to the SLU community on Friday, Aug. 7, all residential students will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival. Students who test positive will be given options for how to proceed with their move-in plans. See the procedure in the Testing Checklist PDF.
- Billiken families and students will receive detailed information about how testing will impact move-in and that they should consult those details rather than the general Fall Move-In and Welcome pages. More information is forthcoming.
- In an effort to follow health and safety protocols, and to allow appropriate social distancing, students and families are encouraged to follow the University’s move-in schedule.
- All students and guests will be required to wear a mask while on campus (even outdoors), and in order to enter SLU facilities. Learn more about SLU's COVID-19 pandemic response and safeguards.
- If students and/or their accompanying move-in guests are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, the student should contact the Student Health Center at 314-977-2323. If a guest is experiencing symptoms, the person should remain in their vehicle.
Who's Here to Help Me?
- Members of Oriflamme, the Department of Housing and Residence Life and resident advisors (RAs) will all be waiting to help arriving new Billikens and their families. However, due to COVID safety guidelines, Oriflamme leaders will only be supporting move-in efforts according to their own comfort level, and that of our newly arriving families.
- Additionally, other staff members and student volunteers will be on hand to help with Move-In matters, directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic, holding doors and managing elevators.
- For emergencies, members of the Department of Campus Safety (DPS) will be on hand.
- If you run into any maintenance issues, including things like electrical or heating/cooling issues, in an on-campus residence hall or apartment, please contact Facilities Services at 314-977-2955 or submit a facilities service request through MySLU.
How to Get Around During Move-In?
- Traffic will be heavy on the streets surrounding campus on Move-In days. Faculty, staff members, students and other campus visitors should plan for extra time to get to and from campus locations.
- Laclede Avenue will be temporarily transformed into a one-way street from Spring Avenue to Grand Boulevard.
- SLU community members who are not taking part in Move-In activities should avoid using Laclede Avenue during the week of August 10 to 16.
- Vehicles parked in Laclede Garage after 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, through 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 will be asked to relocate their vehicles overnight to allow for the next day’s arrivals.
- Drivers should watch the road for extra pedestrians and golf carts, and proceed cautiously and slowly, as more people will be crossing streets in and around campus.
- Pedestrians moving around campus should plan to wear a mask at all times, and maintain at least six feet of distance from others, as much as possible.
Where Should I Park?
- Check out the map of open garages and more tips on where to park during Fall Move-In.
- Students and guests who are moving in should park in their originally assigned parking location.
I’ve Moved In, Now What?
- There are Fall Welcome activities planned to introduce students to life at SLU. Due to health and safety concerns, and the extended move-in schedule, there will be no parent and family programming offered on campus.
- New students will still participate in a variety of virtual Fall Welcome programs with support of the Oriflamme team. These fall orientation leaders will ensure that new students can safely enjoy their transition to campus, and appropriately prepare for their first day as a “SLU-dent.”
- The Fall Welcome webpage is being updated daily with new programming details.
