Annual Sista Strut for Breast Cancer Awareness Goes Virtual for 2020
Join volunteers from Saint Louis University in a virtual walk as part of the 2020 Sista Strut Saturday, Oct. 3. The annual event, usually held in downtown St. Louis, will be online this year.
There will be a virtual video celebration at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, to showcase breast cancer awareness and bring everyone together, virtually, as a community, as would typically happen at Sista Strut.
In 2019, the SLU Fairy God Walkers team totaled more than 120 walkers, the event’s largest group to date, and raised more than $3,500 for local nonprofits that help women fighting breast cancer, support survivors and are active in breast cancer research.
Research has shown that African American women are more likely to develop breast cancer at a younger age and to die from the disease than Caucasian women of the same age. Sista Strut recognizes the strength of survivors and their families and friends, heightens awareness, promotes early detection and aids the search for a cure.
To donate to Sista Strut’s different charities, visit the Sista Strut page on the 100.3 The Beat website. Masks are available for purchase. They are $10 each, but orders can be bought together to limit shipping charges. Mask orders are due by Friday, Aug. 28.
Registration for the 2020 Virtual Sista Strut Breast Cancer Walk will be posted later. Those interested in joining the SLU Fairy God Walkers Team may contact Regina Walton at regina.walton@slu.edu, or (314) 239-0488.
