About the Author and Book

Vella traveled from Africa, the Middle East and other parts of the globe to meet and interview refugees in an effort to help them tell their stories and to open a window into the world of people forced to flee their homes in order to survive.

Co-published by the Jesuit Refugee Service, Dying to Live seeks to dispel fear and to help readers create a culture of welcome for all refugee and migrant people. Jim Martin, S.J., the acclaimed Jesuit author, has called Dying to Live, “an essential book for understanding one of the most pressing challenges of our time.”
