Message to Staff: Exercising Your Right to Vote
Oct. 30, 2020
Dear University Staff,
As Dr. Pestello communicated in his email to our community yesterday, our Jesuit identity compels us to recognize that “we are part of something greater.” Voting is among the many ways in which we can contribute to the common good.
The right to vote is a privilege and civic duty, and we encourage our employees to exercise their right to do so. Employees who are registered to vote are permitted time off, with pay, to vote in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, election per the University’s Voting Leave Policy.
Polls in Missouri and Illinois open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on election day. Supervisors have been asked to provide maximum flexibility and accommodation to our employees so that they may vote, while still delivering the critical services that our students and patients count on. The time to start planning for any impact this may have on operations is today.
If your time voting crosses over into any part of your regularly scheduled work hours, you should report that time as time worked in Workday under the University’s Voting Leave Policy.
In the event you encounter any challenges related to your plans to vote and your work schedule, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Human Resources Consultant to seek assistance. You can find your Human Resources Consultant on the HR website. You can also report any concerns to the SLU Integrity Hotline at 1-877-525-5669.
Thank you for all you do for Saint Louis University, and let’s get out and vote!
Sincerely,
Mickey Luna
Vice President, Human Resources
