Campus Community to Mark Occupy SLU Anniversary

The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement and the Cross Cultural Center will mark the sixth anniversary of OccupySLU with an event series beginning Monday, Oct. 12.

Planned events include a commemorative reading of the speech civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered at SLU in 1964, a panel discussion and vigil honoring those killed by police violence.

  • MLK Virtual Commemorative Reading, 11 a.m., via Zoom. Meeting ID: 957 3870 5174
  • The University community will read and reflect upon the 1964 speech delivered by noted Civil Rights leader the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at SLU.
Wednesday, Oct. 14
  • Occupy SLU: Then and Now Panel Discussion, 5 p.m., via Zoom. Meeting ID: 939 1054 3808
  • The panel discussion will be an opportunity for the campus community to learn about the legacy of Occupy SLU while raising awareness about the experiences of marginalized identities on campus through a panel discussion comprised of a mix of SLU faculty, staff and students.
Friday, Oct. 16
  • #SAYTHEIRNAME Candlelight Vigil, 6 p.m., Online. Meeting ID: 93684937732
  • A candlelight vigil will be held for those unjustly killed by police brutality and racial injustice.
