Campus Rec Hosting Suicide Prevention Week Events

The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness will host a slate of virtual and in-person events to mark Suicide Prevention Week 2020 beginning Monday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Oct. 2.
The events aim to help students relieve stress and to take a mental health break.
The events are also opportunities to learn about tools and tips to support the mind, body and spirit, and will focus on helping students, faculty and staff members to educate themselves about suicide, learn ways to prevent or step in for a friend who is in mental health crisis, and/or find ways to support their own mental health.
Week’s Events
“Signs and Symptoms of Suicide,” presented by Jenny Scott, of the University Counseling Center, 4 to 5 p.m.
The Zoom session is a chance to learn about some of the signs and symptoms of related to possible suicide.

Guided Meditation, hosted by the Billiken Wellness Ambassadors, 7 p.m.
Meditation can be a great way to relieve stress and open your mind to new possibilities. Learn how to meditate with our Billiken Wellness Ambassadors and see if meditation is for you.

Save a Friend Chat, presented by Active Minds, 7 p.m.
An interactive presentation on talking with a friend/loved one about mental health and suicide. Active Minds participants will even take you through some scenarios and "What would you do?" moments.

In-Person Yin Yoga, led by Sarah Goble, 5 p.m.
Yin yoga is a meditative yoga class focused around holding yoga poses for a longer amount of time. The longer hold allows for you to use your breath to gently move deeper into mind and body, resulting in an overarching letting go of negative things you’ve been holding on to.
