Midyear Commencement Scheduled for Saturday
12/13/2021
Saint Louis University’s Midyear Commencement ceremony will celebrate the graduation of the newest group of alumni. After not being held in 2020, the event returns for 2021.
The ceremony will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, in Chaifetz Arena.
In accordance with SLU’s COVID-19 policies, all attending SLU's midyear commencement ceremony will be required to show photo ID and proof of either full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 2, and attendees must follow Chaifetz Arena's clear bag policy.
The commencement ceremony will be live-streamed on SLU’s official Facebook page and on slu.edu.
Christina Garcia, Ph.D., assistant professor of Spanish, will be the commencement speaker for the ceremony. Garcia is the 2021 recipient of the Nancy McNeir Ring Award — SLU's highest honor for teaching.
The Nancy McNeir Ring Award originally was established in 1966 by SLU’s chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society, to acknowledge faculty members who display special dedication to students.
Garcia joined SLU at the start of the fall 2015 semester. She is teaches upper level classes in Spanish pronunciation and Spanish for the health professions.
Garcia won’t be the only Nancy McNeir Ring Award winner involved in the ceremony. Geralyn Meyer, Ph.D., a professor in the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing and the winner of the 2020 award, will serve as the mace bearer. Meyer has been a nurse educator for more than 25 years.
There is currently no limit to the number of guests graduates can invite to the ceremony.
