Staff, Faculty Volunteers Needed for MLK, Presidential Scholarship Weekends

01/25/2021

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to assist with virtual interviews for two freshman scholarships, the Presidential Scholarship and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, in February and March 2021.

Volunteers will serve as reviewers and will aid in the recruitment of the University’s Fall 2021 freshman class.

Because the scale of each scholarship review requires the involvement of so many individuals, faculty and staff participation is essential to make each event a success.

About the Scholarships and Review Process

The Presidential Scholarship is a full-tuition academic award which attracts the nation’s most outstanding high school students. Approximately 900 Presidential Scholarship candidates will be considered.

As a reviewer, you will watch candidates’ video submissions and rate them using an online form. This online review is taking place Feb. 8-19, 2021. Review of these applicants will take approximately 6-8 hours of your time to complete, as you will be reviewing submissions from multiple candidates.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership as agents of change within their school or community. King Scholars must be committed to advancing Dr. King’s ideals, be champions of social justice and equity, and be advocates of increasing multicultural fluency and inclusion at SLU and in society at large.

The online review is taking place March 8-19, 2021. Review of these applicants will take approximately 6-8 hours of your time to complete, as you will be reviewing submissions from multiple candidates.

Due to travel restrictions and COVID-19 related precautionary measures, this year’s interviews will be conducted asynchronously online. Using an online platform called StandOut, student candidates will record their responses to interview questions. Reviewers will then view and score these video responses.

A desktop, laptop or tablet computer is required to access the StandOut platform; mobile devices are not supported. As a reviewer, you will be able to view and score your assigned candidates at any time within the review window.

There is no live portion of the interview this year. To volunteer as an interviewer for Presidential Scholarship Weekend and/or Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Weekend, register online.

Once you have registered, Andrea Hitsman, Assistant Director for Campus Visits in the Office of Admission, will be in touch with more information on the review process and detailed instructions on your participation.
