2022 Benefits Open Enrollment Starts October 20
10/07/2021
Open Enrollment for our Saint Louis University 2022 benefit plans is from Wednesday, Oct. 20 through Friday, Nov. 5. Open enrollment is an annual opportunity to review and make changes to your benefit elections.
With advances in both medical treatments and prescription drugs, health care costs in the United States and the St. Louis area continue to rise faster than general inflation. The University continues to seek opportunities to provide a competitive plan while controlling plan costs and minimizing the healthcare costs paid by our faculty and staff. As part of our process, we regularly compare our employee contribution rates and plan design to ensure that our plan is competitive with other higher education institutions, healthcare organizations and local employers. This year, as in past years, plan changes were focused on ensuring the University continues to cover 75% of the plan’s total cost with the remaining 25% covered through employee contributions.
We will continue to offer health insurance plans with no monthly premium contribution to employees who make less than $39,275. Keeping health insurance affordable for these valuable members of our community is consistently identified as a top priority by many faculty, staff and administrators. Additionally, to remain in line with our efforts to provide affordable medical care, a new higher tiered premium level is being implemented for those faculty and staff that earn $200,000 or more annually.
Plan Design Changes
- Employee Medical Plan contribution rates will increase for 2022. You may view all the premium contribution amounts by clicking here.
- Plus Plan and QHDHP plan design changes. Co-pays and coinsurance amounts will remain flat, but there will be increases to deductibles and out of pocket maximums. Adherence to new Express Scripts pharmacy programs will be required to receive the maximum prescription benefits. Click here to access a quick view of the 2022 Medical Plans.
- Tier 1 Benefits. The University is continuing to offer enhanced medical benefits to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses when accessing a Tier 1(SLUCare/SSM) provider.
- LTD premium increase. A minimal premium increase will apply as of January 1, 2022, for long-term disability
benefits. For example, if you earn $50,000, your monthly premium will go from $2.92
to $3.21.
Wellness Premium Discount
- Biometric screening is a pillar of the University’s wellness program and is typically required to receive the wellness premium discount each year. This year, SLU will only require the biometric screening. We believe that this is an important part of the annual screening process because it helps to identify major health risks before they cause issues.
- Details on how to schedule a biometric screening through our biometric screening provider, Quest, were provided on Sept. 1.
