Two Policies Now Active After Completing Approval Process
10/27/2021
Two policies are now active after completing the University policy approval process. One is an update to Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and the other is a Copyright Compliance and Use Policy.
The Saint Louis University Policy Program was created to provide structure and clarity to the review and approval process for policies at the University.
The policy program is guided by the University Policy on Policies. The Office of Compliance and Ethics is dedicated to providing the appropriate guidance to SLU personnel who are working to create or update policies and procedures at the University.
About the Policies
Update to Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy
The Department of Education released guidance on August 19, 2021 that was effective immediately. The guidance explained that due to recent federal caselaw, the Department would cease to enforce the requirement that information and/or statements relied up on by the decision-maker in a Title IX grievance process be subject to cross examination by an advisor. This required an immediate modification of the current Title IX policy to align with federal law.
The one significant change is in section 2.11 E. If deemed reliable and relevant by the hearing panel, and not otherwise subject to exclusion under this Policy, the statements of a Party or witness who was not present at the hearing, or a Party or witness who was present at the hearing but who nevertheless was not subject to cross examination may be considered by the hearing panel.
This includes, but is not limited to, the information, statements, and materials provided or gathered during the investigative process.
Copyright Compliance and Use Policy
In the pursuit of its institutional mission, Saint Louis University seeks excellence in the fulfillment of its corporate purposes of teaching, research, health care, and service to the community. To this end, the University encourages its faculty, students, staff, and administrators to take full advantage of their creative rights under law. At the same time, its faculty, students, staff, and administrators are expected to respect the copyright protected materials of others in compliance with U.S. and international copyright law and proprietary license agreements.
Copyright is the form of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship that are fixed in a tangible medium of expression; it is universally applicable to materials in all formats.
