Fresh Gatherings Cafe + Farm Opening Second Location in Education Union

Fresh Gatherings Cafe + Farm, run by SLU’s Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, is opening a second location in the Education Union on the Medical Campus. 

The Education Union location will open Thursday, Jan. 20. The EU location hours will be Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 31.

“This initiative will make it easier for students, faculty, staff and other guests on the South Campus to experience Fresh Gatherings’ healthy and delicious menu,” said Anthony Breitbach, Ph.D., interim Nutrition and Dietetics chairperson. “We believe that this benefit goes far beyond the food, creating a chance to build community by enjoying meals together in a revitalized space.”

The EU location’s offerings will include classic Fresh Gatherings grab ‘n’ go sandwiches, salads, and snacks, along with a limited coffee and smoothie bar menu featuring three smoothie flavors: Strawberry Banana, Green Goddess, and PBJ. 

“We are excited to expand into the Education Union because it will allow us to serve our community in new and exciting ways and create new capacity in our efforts to integrate our urban farm as well as our local farmers and vendors,” Chef Dan Brewer said. 

The second location is intended to offer increased educational opportunities for students and increase menu offerings. At the same time, the goal is to have a decrease in long lunch lines with two locations now available. 

Payment options at the EU include Billiken Bucks, flex, cash and card. 

Meanwhile, Fresh Gatherings Cafe + Farm at the Allied Health Building will continue to be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hot breakfast, made-to-order lunch specials, full service coffee bar, and grab ‘n’ go items. 

“Fresh Gatherings Cafe and Farm has evolved into a hub and a center point for community connectivity,” Brewer said. “We know that food’s ability to bring people together is unparalleled — and we want to continue serving in this way.”

Payment options at Allied Health include meal swipe from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Billiken Bucks, flex, cash and card.
