15th Annual Senior Legacy Symposium Scheduled for May 5
01/27/2022
The 15th annual Senior Legacy Symposium, which is sponsored by the Division of Academic Affairs and coordinated by the University Honors Program, will take place on Tuesday, May 3, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Busch Student Center.
At this time, organizers are still planning to hold the event in an in-person format, with some changes to the format since the last live event in 2019. The event will, of course, abide by any changes to the University's policies on in-person events. Organizers are prepared to hold the event virtually, if necessary.
Each undergraduate department/program is invited to select up to three student projects for presentation at this year’s symposium. Each department/program is encouraged to determine an appropriate mechanism for selecting their student participants. Common methods in the past have included faculty nomination, a faculty selection committee, departmental symposia, and more.Departments/programs will use a departmental reservation form to reserve their spots for the Legacy Symposium. Forms are due by Friday, Feb. 18.
This year, student participation will take the form of a traditional poster presentation, a creative presentation (with limited spots available), or an interdisciplinary research panel in which students share information about their projects and engage in dialogue with students from other fields.
Students also will be able to share project details, upload complete artifacts of their work, or record presentations to be featured on the Senior Legacy Symposium website. Last year's virtual symposium site can be used as a guide for how this will look for the 2022 event.
Individual names of nominated students will not be due until Friday, March 25, 2022. Departments will complete a student information request form for this purpose. Organizers understand some departments require additional time to identify students for the symposium. Legacy staff will work with departments whose timelines conflict with this deadline. There is a place for departments/contacts to indicate a later selection date on the departmental reservation form above.
Nominated students will provide project details and indicate their preferences for live presentation and website contribution type by Friday, April 22, 2022. Legacy staff will review all submissions and communicate directly with students and departments about additional needs.
Additional information will be shared with the campus community as the event draws nearer. In the meantime, organizers will communicate directly with departmental/program contacts to confirm participation, secure the names of nominated students, etc.
