Celebrate the Consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the SLU Community on Friday
03/22/2022
Pope Francis will be consecrating Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and in solidarity, Saint Louis University will celebrate Mass and pray the rosary at 3 p.m. Friday, March 25, in the new Marian prayer space.
Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on for the service.
Ukraine’s bishops asked Pope Francis earlier this month to consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In 1984, on March 25, Pope John Paul II consecrated Russia and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The Marian grotto, located between Compton Garage and Chaifetz Arena, was dedicated in December in anticipation of the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The statue of the Virgin Mary in the grotto was previously installed on what is now the site of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering building.
The Mass is sponsored by the Office of Mission and Identity, the Department of Campus Ministry and the Catholic Studies Program. For more information contact Sue Chawszczewski, director of campus ministry at susanne.chawszczewski@slu.edu.
Saint Louis University’s Office of Mission and Identity ensures that the principles and traditions of Catholic, Jesuit higher education, and the mission and core values of SLU are integrated into operations, structures, programs and practices, and the formation of its students, faculty, staff, administration and board members.
