Electronics Recycling and Shred It Drive Scheduled for March 29

Facilities Services is hosting an E-Waste and Shred It Drive on Tuesday, March 29, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fred Weber lot of Chaifetz Arena.

This drive is a part of the collegiate sustainability competition known as Campus Race to Zero Waste (formerly Recyclemania). Saint Louis University was the winner of the E-Waste Drive in 2019.

The drive is a friendly competition for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Some 300 campuses in 43 states competed in RecycleMania in 2019 engaging 4.25 million students and 900,000 faculty and staff for a total of more than 5.1 million participants.

SLU has not held the event since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The event is open to the general public and fees will apply for certain items. Cathode ray tube TVs smaller than 26-inches will cost $30 to recycle. CRT TV's larger than 27-inches will cost $50 to recycle.

All flat screen TVs will cost $20 to recycle. CRT computer monitors will cost $5. Any appliance with freon will cos $10. 

Computers, laptops, printers, DVD players, VCRs, gaming consoles, stereos, radios, printers, water heaters, washers, dryers, stoves, and microwaves can be recycled without a fee. 

The shredding includes free confidential document shredding.
