STEM Non-Profit Partners with Summer At SLU for Camp Scholarships

05/17/2022

One of the central initiatives of Summer At SLU is to open up the Saint Louis University campus to students of all ages for K-12 camps and academies. One way to achieve that is through camp/academy scholarships.

To assist families with the cost of summer camps, EI.BO, a non-profit organization, has partnered with the Office of Summer and Extended Studies to offer $1,000 in scholarships for STEM camps, which Saint Louis University will match in full.

The gift, when matched, will provide seven students with financial assistance to attend the camps, students who otherwise would not have been able to attend.

Part of Summer At SLU’s extensive K-12 programming includes numerous STEM camps that are offered in the fields of robotics, coding, program development with java and python, game app development, and more. The scholarship from EI.BO will be used towards registration in these programs.

EI.BO is a nonprofit organization with a mission to reduce and remove barriers to education in the fields of programming, computer science, and technology for children grades 1-12 in the Midwest United States.

EI.BO was started by volunteers from Laclede’s LAN, a St. Louis volunteer-run organization that has been throwing LAN parties (PC gaming events) since 2004. After a several-year break, Laclede’s LAN rebooted in 2014 with a new focus on supporting STEM education throughout the St. Louis area.

“We are excited to partner with EI.BO to offer scholarships for our Summer At SLU families,” says Troy Hargrove, director of the Office of Summer and Extended Studies. “The STEM camps that we offer ignite a student’s interest in science and technology, so we are incredibly grateful that EI.BO is a supporter in that.”

The next LAN party will be held on SLU’s campus at the Wool Ballroom from October 21 - 23, 2022.

Summer camp registration is open now on summer.slu.edu. To apply for a Summer At SLU K-12 camp/academy scholarship, visit the website.
