The first Head of the Rock event took place in 1986. Today the Head of the Rock is sanctioned by US Rowing as a national standard regatta (NSR) and has grown to be one of the biggest regattas in the country.  The course is 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) long beginning at Martin Park and finishing at the downtown YMCA in Rockford.

This year's regatta took place Sunday, Oct. 9.

This was our first event of the season for the SLU team. There were 42 other teams competing.

The SLU squad also raced in the Mixed Open 8 and Men's Open Double. The team had 12 out of the 20 members on the squad people compete. The team's next regatta begins Friday, Nov. 4
