Graduate Education Hosting Communicating and Connecting Workshop Series

The Graduate Education is hosting a series of Communicating and Connecting Workshops. The workshops are designed to help with basic presentation skills, research presentation skills, and writing effective research plans and proposals.
Basic Presentation Skills
In collaboration with the Department of Communication, a two-hour workshop focused on basic presentation skills will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, in the Busch Student Center Room 253. A 45-minute lecture will be followed by a 15-minute snack break and then a one hour workshop in which students will develop strong instructions and research elevator pitches.
Registration is required because space is limited.
Research Presentation Skills
A second workshop, also in connection with the Department of Communication, will focus on research presentation skills. The workshop will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Busch Student Center Room 251. The workshop will follow the same format with 45-minute lecture will be followed by a 15-minute snack break and then a one-hour workshop in which students will develop and interact with powerpoints around their current research.
Registration is required and space is limited.
Writing Effective Research Plans and Proposals Workshop
The final workshop will be Thursday, Oct. 27. Graduate Education is partnering with the Office of the Vice President for Research to offer the Writing Effective Research Plans and Proposals Workshop for Ph.D. students.
This day-long workshop will examine and practice the tools and skills needed to develop a successful research project and to turn that project into a competitive proposal. The tools covered include developing a conceptual and logical research framework, a logic map, a research overview, and a research proposal for a dissertation, internal funds, or external funds. Presentations will be combined with group discussions and individual writing exercises.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27, Griesedieck Hall in the Career Services conference room. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m., break for lunch, and conclude around 4:30 p.m..
