SLU ASBMB Hosts Research Symposium for High School Students

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) SLU Chapter organized a scientific outreach activity on April 1. The ASBMB High School Research Symposium allowed students to present their scientific research, listen to a panel, and tour the medical campus.

Students presented their scientific research for 20 minutes with question-and-answer sessions that followed. The next activity was an ASBMB SLU student panel followed the campus tour.

From selected applicants, the event hosted 11 students from high schools in St. Louis area.

The following students received awards:

1st place, Addison McGahan (Cor Jesu Academy)
2nd place, Sarah Ebenezer (Lafayette High School)
3rd place, Rebecca Mooney (Visitation Academy)
Honorable Mention, Charles Daugherty (Saint Louis University High School)

ASBMB Executive Board members are Ether Dharmesh, president; Darshwana Arunprasathm, vice-president; Vaishnavi Srirama, VP of Events; Nora Samad, secretary; Annie Jung, Treasurer; Kirti Madhu, public relations; and Jessica Michael, historian. The faculty advisor is Uthayashanker Ezekiel Ph.D.
