SLU Clinic Offering Free Hearing Screenings
04/20/2023
The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association is partnering with the SLU Speech Language and Hearing Clinic, located in McGannon Hall, for free hearing screenings.
The screenings will be available to everyone on Tuesday, April 25, from noon to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and Thursday, April 27, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The hearing screenings will take each individual about five minutes. Participants will be immediately told if they are recommended to see an audiologist for further testing or if they have passed the screening.
Hearing loss is being linked to many issues later in life such as dementia, cognitive decline, and social isolation if left untreated. The sooner potential hearing loss is caught, the better outcomes individuals can have when treating the hearing loss.
The average individual doesn't seek help for hearing loss related signs and symptoms for upwards of five-plus years after first noticing difficulties with hearing.
The screenings will be done by graduate students in SLU's Speech-Language Pathology Master's program under the supervision of licensed speech pathologists and audiologists. The screenings are open to everyone, not just members of the SLU community.
