Vice President for Student Development Sarah Cunningham, Ed.D., announced Moroney’s appointment, sharing her enthusiasm for the incoming leader’s more than 20-year experience with student-centered work in higher education.

“Donney has a rich and robust tenure in higher education across a wide range of institutions and with a consistent commitment to advocating on behalf of student success,” Cunningham said.

Moroney has more than 20 years of experience in higher education. She currently serves as the vice president of student affairs at Cardinal Stritch University, where she oversees academic support services, intercollegiate athletics and residence life, among other areas. She also is a member of the university’s leadership cabinet.

Prior to joining Cardinal Stritch in 2016, she served as the director of student affairs and academic counseling at the Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, the first American medical school established outside the United States. Moroney also spent time at the University of Michigan School of Medicine and the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs.

“I am thrilled to join the SLU community as the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students,” Moroney said. “My passion for higher education is rooted in creating inclusive and supportive communities where all can thrive. I cannot wait to start the next chapter of my professional career as a Billiken and help build on the university’s transformative legacy that spans more than 200 years.”

The assistant vice president and dean of students is a senior-level administrator role at SLU that provides leadership and oversight for the Dean of Students Office, student responsibility and community standards, student support services, and parent and family support services.

The position is also charged with leading the development of a thoughtful and holistic crisis response plan, case management, managing and maintaining community standards, comprehensive family engagement, and fostering meaningful co-curricular engagement opportunities.

Moroney’s appointment follows a national search led by a search committee comprised of students, faculty and staff.
