Saint Louis University’s Jesuit Center is an award winner.

The Jesuit Center construction project was recently recognized at the Associated General Contractors of Missouri’s 2023 Construction Awards Gala. The Jesuit Center received a 2023 Construction Keystone Award, celebrating construction excellence. The award was for the Project of the Year for top project under $20 million.

The award was presented to the project’s contractor, BSI Constructors, Inc., and SLU at the awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 2.

The project was in the Mid-America Class and competed with other construction projects in Missouri and its contiguous states. The other two projects nominated in the category were the Granite City High School Softball Field and R. P. Lumber Center in the city of Edwardsville.

The Saint Louis University community and members of the Jesuits Central and Southern Province broke ground on the facility in April 2021. The project was completed in August 2022.

The Jesuit Center houses Jesuits on SLU’s campus and was intended to create a space for enhanced interaction between SLU’s Jesuits and the wider community.

University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D. noted when the project was first announced that the decision to locate the residence on campus was made in furtherance of a SLU’s strategic priority to strengthen SLU’s Catholic and Jesuit Mission.

The chapel and first-floor meeting rooms are open for use by the community. Student weeknight Masses, previously held in residence halls, are now held in the chapel.

The Center is located on the north side of Laclede Ave., just west of Spring Ave., with Fusz Hall to the North and Beracha and Spring Halls to the east.

The facility has 20 bedrooms for SLU Jesuits and five for guests. The chapel is visible from the West Pine Mall.

The facility was designed by HKW Architects.
