SLU Theatre and Dance is offering complimentary tickets to all SLU students for the upcoming production of "Alabama Story" by Kenneth Jones.
These tickets will be available at the Grandel Box Office beginning one hour before each performance, subject to availability.
"Alabama Story" by Kenneth Jones runs Thursday, Oct. 5, to Saturday, Oct. 5. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m. and and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Grandel (3610 Grandel Square, St. Louis, MO 63103).
As the Civil Rights movement is brewing, a controversial children’s book about a black rabbit marrying a white rabbit stirs the passions of a segregationist State Senator and a no-nonsense State Librarian in 1959 Montgomery, Alabama. A contrasting story of childhood friends—an African American man and a woman of white privilege, reunited in adulthood—provides private counterpoint to the public events swirling in the state capital. Political foes, star-crossed lovers, and one feisty children’s author inhabit the same page in a Deep South of the imagination that brims with humor, heartbreak, and hope. Inspired by true events!
Alabama Story contains descriptions of violence, depictions of historical racism and racist attitudes, and references to suicide. It is directed by SLU Associate Professor of Theatre Nancy Bell.
Ample street parking exists in front of the main entrance of The Grandel, as well as local parking garages in the surrounding blocks. Road closures on Grand Boulevard may impact your travels.
The Grandel is a fully accessible and ADA-compliant venue. Accessible reserved parking and entrance (via ramp) are located on the direct west side of the building.
