The Saint Louis University Research Institute has published its 2023 Annual Impact Report, celebrating successes among SLU researchers in the past year.
The full report can be viewed online.
The Research Institute publishes its Impact Report every year for the University community,
SLU friends, benefactors, and peers. The goal of the Impact Report is to share the
story of SLU’s rise as a preeminent Jesuit research university and illustrate the
full breadth of SLU’s research activities.
This latest edition features a selection of stories that highlight the unique and
meaningful research happening across the University, showcasing new inventions and
novel approaches; regional impact and partnerships; student research, and researchers
working with and for communities in St. Louis and beyond.
Some of these stories include:
- Efforts to better understand animal movements across St. Louis
- Preparations for a NASA-sponsored satellite launch
- Historical excavations
- Repairs to the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex at the Saint Louis Science Center
- Profiles of SLU Research Institute Fellows providing insight and leadership in areas such as public health, workers’ safety and compensation, female entrepreneurship, and more.
- Profiles of student researchers working on public opinion polling across Missouri, new wearable touch-based technologies, and more.
This edition also includes:
- Letters from University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., and SLU Research Institute Director Ken Olliff
- Statistics on research growth from across the University
- Highlights from the first year of the Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI), including a conversation with inaugural Executive Director Nadine Alameh, Ph.D.
- A look at the latest cohort of SLU Research Institute Fellows
- A selection of books published by SLU authors in the past year
- Announcements from across the University’s research community
The cover of the Impact Report features a printed circuit board designed by Nicolas Prudencio, a graduate student in the Collaborative Haptics, Robotics, and Mechatronics (CHROME) Lab, under the supervision of Jenna Gorlewicz, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical engineering, SLU Research Institute Fellow, and director of the CHROME Lab.
The circuit board was designed as part of a collaboration with Gallaudet University and the DeafBlind community to develop wearable touch-based technologies. More information can be found in the story “A Touch of Ingenuity.”
Stories from the Impact Report have been featured in the Monday edition of Newslink since the start of the spring 2024 semester. They will continue to be featured through the summer.
A submission process for the next edition will be announced to the campus community in summer 2024.
