Mass of the Holy Spirit Is August 22

Saint Louis University will mark the beginning of the new academic year with its traditional Mass of the Holy Spirit.

This year’s liturgy will take place on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier College Church.  Classes are canceled from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

David Suwalsky, S.J., Ph.D., vice president for mission and identity, will preside and Fr. James F. Duffy, S.J., MD.,. associate dean for clinical curriculum at the SLU School of Medicine will deliver the homily.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition at Jesuit schools and university throughout the world. These celebrations date back to 1548, when the initial Mass was celebrated at the first Jesuit school in Messina, Sicily.
