Fall 2024 Semester Instructor AskSLU Toolbox Is Now Available

07/29/2024

ITS has developed a summary of online resources below to help support instructors with technology specific to teaching.

Additionally, instructors can access a two-page high-level overview of instructor-specific technology on the ITS webpage — users must sign into ask.slu.edu to view the document. Instructors can also review additional Teaching and Learning knowledge resources located online at the ask.slu.edu knowledge base.

Users are encouraged to review the resources available and contact the ITS Service Desk at 314-977-4000 if they need any additional assistance.

Support for Canvas, Panopto, Zoom, or Respondus can also be obtained by emailing facsupport@slu.edu.

Canvas

Canvas is SLU’s learning management system and serves to keep students and instructors connected through hosted exams, assignments, communication, and other relevant resources.

Instructors can reach Canvas support directly through the chat feature or users can call 314-977-4000 and press option 3.

Canvas support is offered 24/7 through these options. If an instructor needs support thinking about how to teach with Canvas, they can request a confidential teaching consultation with the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning.

Panopto

Panopto is SLU’s lecture capture tool. It can be used to record live lectures, pre-record and share lectures with narrated PowerPoint presentations and upload and store other videos such as Zoom recordings.

Basic instructions on how to record a lecture or other content are found online

Zoom

Zoom is SLU’s platform for live, real-time video and audio conferencing, collaboration, chat and webinars. It is used to facilitate meetings and remote learning. All instructors, staff and currently enrolled students have a Zoom license.

If an instructor needs additional information related to Zoom, they can access the ITS Zoom-specific articles below or users can call the ITS Service Desk at 314-977-4000.

Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor

The LockDown Browser is a secure web browser used for online testing through Canvas.

Monitor is a tool that works in conjunction with the browser to proctor students automatically using their webcams. A brief overview and access to a quick start guide can be found on the ITS webpage.

Instructor In-Person Consultation

ITS is offering individual in-person consultations for classroom technologies. Are you working in a classroom this semester that you are unfamiliar with? This might be a great option to ensure you fully understand the classroom technology. Users can sign up for one of these sessions here.

Classroom Technologies and Support

Classrooms at SLU are equipped with hardware and software that support classroom instruction. An overview video of the equipment installed in most classrooms can be found here.

A brief overview of SLU's classroom hardware, such as Crestron displays, cameras and projectors can be found online.

A list of software such as Microsoft Office, Zoom and Panopto included in each classroom can be found here.

The SLU ITS technical support team will be spread out over campus the first two weeks of classes to help support urgent needs quickly. Instructors can look for ITS staffers in AskSLU shirts and flag them down. Users can also call 314-977-4000.

When calling, let the technician know that there is an urgent classroom issue, and ITS will dispatch someone to the right location.

Additionally, the phone icon on the Crestron AV panel in the classrooms will directly connect you to the ITS Service Desk
