SLU's League of Legends team secured a series of wins to secure a top-2 finish on the season and earned the right to compete for a national title.
The Billikens will face off for the top spot on Saturday, June 8, against Maryville University. The matchup will take place in Boise, Idaho.
SLU opened the 2024 CLOL College Championship with a loss to the University of St. Thomas, a two-time National Champion. After the setback, the Billikens then went on a historic run.
SLU made it all the way through the losers bracket in the double-elimination tournament. SLU took out Ole Miss 3-2, Winthrop University 3-1, Northwood University 3-0 before getting revenge on St. Thomas. With a 3-1 win on Sunday, May 26, against St. Thomas, SLU punched their ticket the grand finals.
The SLU starting roster for run to the finals was Jett "Srtty" Joye in the Top Lane, Winston "Winnie" Herold in the Jungle, Isaac "Darkwings" Chou in the Middle Lane, Aaron "Airren" Li in the bottom lane, Daniel "Skytec" Soetikno as the support and Mervin "Dayos" Lachica as the head coach.
The Billikens now only need to take one last best of five match against the Maryville Saints to secure the national title.
This will be the Billikens first national championship appearance in program history. The team was started just four years ago.
