Volunteers Needed for Free Weight Management and Healthy Habit Counseling Sessions

Nutrition and Dietetics students are seeking volunteers for a 4-session personalized nutrition counseling program. The sessions start on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Details
- Location: Allied Health Building
- Time: Sessions start at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., or noon on Wednesdays
- Dates: Nov. 6, Nov. 13, Nov. 20, and Dec. 4.
- Session length: 30-60 minutes
During the sessions, students will assess nutrition, help set goals using motivational interviewing, and support behavior changes for weight management or other health goals. The first session will last about 60 minutes, with following sessions lasting 30-60 minutes, depending on the volunteer's needs. At least one session will be recorded to evaluate the student's counseling performance.
Because the students and not yet licensed dietitians volunteers must not be on physician-recommended diets. Volunteers will be asked to complete a 3-day food record, nutrition history, and weight history form, which will be emailed by the student counselors.
There are only 11 spots available. Reservations are required.
Maria Romo-Palafox, Ph.D., will supervise the sessions as part of her course, DIET 4500.
