Okta Change Coming March 12

02/12/2025

Due to increasing security threats and concerns, Okta is in the process of removing support for voice and SMS text verification for multi-factor authentication (MFA).

As a result, SLU must transition its MFA process to use the Okta Verify application. The change will take place on Wednesday, March 12.

Why Is the Change Happening?

The SMS text and voice verification methods for verifying valid authentication attempts have significant security flaws. The Okta Verify application provides a more secure and reliable method of authentication.

Additionally, changing to using the application for verification makes the process of authentication much simpler than waiting for and then using a PIN from a text or voice call.

What You Need to Do?

To prepare for the change, users need to install Okta Verify. If SLU users don’t already have Okta Verify installed on their smartphone, they should follow these directions to download and install the app. Additionally, the Okta Verify application is also now available to install on your Windows or Mac OS computer.

How To Install Okta Verify

If you already have Okta Verify installed, there is nothing more to do. When prompted, select the preferred method “Get a push notification” verification option to use the Okta Verify app.

Users should contact IT Support at 314-977-4000 or email at ask@slu.edu. if they encounter any issues or have questions.
