Faculty Training Opportunity: Universal Design and the Americans with Disabilities Act

The Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources and the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning are now accepting registrations for a course on the topic of Universal Design and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

This two-week course runs from Tuesday, Feb. 11, to Tuesday, Feb. 25, and is offered entirely asynchronously in Canvas.

The course surveys key components of the ADA and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), with a particular focus on understanding the role of accommodations in higher education classrooms. The course then examines Universal Design and the Universal Design for Learning framework as proactive approaches to removing barriers to student learning.

Participants will work independently on four modules at their own pace. There are weekly deadlines for submissions in order to keep participants on track and engaged in conversations with other participants.

Consideration is given to all faculty or graduate student instructors currently teaching at SLU. There is a registration cap of 50 participants. After the cap has been reached, a waitlist will be started for the next opportunity.
