Career Services and 14 students traveled to Houston, TX, for the Spring 2025 Houston Career Trek.
This opportunity allowed students to expand their network, explore the city, and learn about job and internship opportunities. Students visited with professionals from NASA’s Johnson Space Center, KBR, ENGIE, and BP.
NASA’s Johnson Space Center, a leader in human discovery and space exploration, provided presentations about how space affects the body, procurement, current engineering endeavors, and the utilization of information technology.
Students also toured the Mission Control Center and learned about collaboration and partnerships between countries around the globe. The next visit with a technology and engineering solutions company named KBR complemented the NASA visit by providing insight into government contracts and the logistics involved in staffing contracted projects.
Students also learned about opportunities with the company and received a presentation from KBR’s Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist on creating a standout resume.
During the next visit with ENGIE, an electric utility company focused on renewable solutions, staff presented on their mission and global impact. They also provided a panel discussion on their efforts to create an inclusive culture within the company.
The final visit of the trip was with BP, an oil and gas company. Students learned about the extensive benefits of working for or interning with BP, including child care services, intern housing, on-site gym membership, access to bikes for transportation, and more. They also received a panel presentation from young professionals within the company.
During the trip, students also attended a networking dinner with alumni in the area, attended a Houston Rockets-Phoenix Suns basketball game, and had time to try new foods and explore the city.
