Mass and Speaker Series Continues April 4

03/18/2025

The Mission and Identity Friday Mass and Speaker Series will continue on April 4.

Patrick Cousins, director of Pastoral Formation at Saint Louis University, will lead a panel discussion on SLU’s response to Laudato si’. Laudato si’ is an encyclical of Pope Francis published in May 2015. It focuses on care for the natural environment and all people, as well as broader questions of the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth.

“God has written a precious book, whose letters are the multitude of created things. From panoramic vistas to the tiniest living form, nature is a constant source of wonder and awe. It is also a continuing revelation of the divine. Alongside revelation in sacred Scripture, there is a divine manifestation in the blaze of the sun and the fall of night” (Laudato Si’, 85).

What we need is an ecological conversion, whereby the effects of our encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in our relationship with the world around us. Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.” (LS, 217)

The event will be at noon on Friday, April 4. Lunch and the panel discussion will follow Mass. The event will take place in Boileau Hall.
