Campus Move-In Planned for Aug. 17-19
With a brand new residence hall in place and an array of fun events planned, Saint Louis University is ready to welcome students to campus for the start of the 2016-17 academic year.
Move-in officially begins with first-year students on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Starting at 9 a.m., dozens of student leaders from Oriflamme will be available to help SLU’s newest Billikens move into their new homes away from home. (Clad in orange T-shirts, these student volunteers will provide additional assistance Thursday.)
Because of ongoing campus construction, some move-in arrangements — including parking areas — are a bit different this year. Incoming students and their parents should check out materials sent by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
Some of SLU’s first-year students will call the new Spring Hall home. Completed earlier this month, the $43 million, eight-story complex will house more than 450 freshmen and sophomores. The hall features suite-style rooms, a community kitchen, a chapel, quiet study spaces, an outdoor classroom and more. SLU held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building Aug. 8.
In between unloading cars and unpacking boxes, first-year students will enjoy special programming designed to make their first days on campus as welcoming and memorable as possible.
Highlights of Fall Welcome include convocation and family welcome, a spirit competition during a men’s soccer game, and an annual square dance, which is held under the stars on the rooftop of one of SLU’s parking garages.
This year’s freshman class is shaping up to be the most academically gifted in SLU’s nearly 200-year history. The class of 2020 is expected to be ranked in the upper 10 percent in the country according to their high school GPAs and ACT/SAT scores.
Undergraduate classes at SLU begin Monday, Aug. 22. Classes for the School of Law and the School of Medicine are already underway.
