Nine Reasons to Love Fall at SLU

The brisk weather and aroma of pumpkin-spice-everything are surefire signs that fall has officially arrived on SLU’s campus. Check out a few of the noteworthy things about being a Billiken in the fall.

  1. There are more opportunities to wear Billiken sweatshirts.
One of the best things about being a Billiken is the Billiken pride. One walk down West Pine and you’ll know it’s that time of the year when SLU crewnecks come out to play. Don’t have a SLU sweatshirt? Fear not. There’s never a shortage at the campus bookstore.

  2. Squirrels are friendlier as they prepare for winter.
Ask any student, and they’ll tell you it’s always a plus when these little critters aren’t trying to jump out of a trash can at you. It’s almost as if their squirrel-senses are tingling with the knowledge that winter is right around the corner; these creatures seem to be a lot more courteous during the fall season.

  3. The semester is in full swing so you’ve met friends to hang out with.
SLU’s reputation for gathering some of the friendliest people out there is completely true. And now that it’s fall, you’ve found some of those incredible people and joined some amazing organizations. What more could you ask for?

  4. There are warm beverages around every corner.
Whether you’re a full-on coffee drinker, or maybe you’re just dipping your toes into the “latte” pond, there is never a shortage of stops for warm beverages during the fall season at SLU. SLU’s campus has a Starbucks and Einstein’s. But if Kaldi’s Coffee is more of your “cup-of-joe,” we’ve covered that ground, too. Grab a warm cup to fill your belly and warm your souls while you work on that paper.

  5. Campus is most picturesque.
Instagrammable foliage everywhere and we do mean everywhere. Take a gander past the historic Samuel Cupples house or pop a seat by the koi pond to read a good book. Walking around campus on a fall day will make you feel like you’re strolling into a movie. Check out this article for some much-needed photo inspiration.

  6. Hammock weather is in full “swing.”
Pun intended. Going to a university in the Midwest lends itself to a fall that is a perfect medium of brisk but not freezing. Let the hammocking sessions commence.

  7. Dorm rooms are extra cozy.
You know it’s fall when you stroll down the hallway of Griesedieck and the aroma of cinnamon and pumpkin fills the air. Students whip out the hot cocoa, fuzzy blankets and twinkly lights to give their home-away-from-away a cozy feel.

  8. The specials at Fresh Gatherings are top notch.
Fresh Gatherings is your one stop shop for all things farm-fresh and local. As the weather cools down, let their mac and cheese melt in your mouth. Take a peek at the fall-inspired roasted kabocha squash. If that doesn’t scream “fall,” we don’t know what does.

  9. You can warm up by the fire pits.
Bonfire season doesn’t have to stop in college. On SLU’s campus, lounge on the patio of Fusz and cozy up by the twinkly lights on a fall night.
