2018 M.H.A. Class Earns Outstanding Fellowships Across United States
05/07/2018
Every year, about one-third to half of the graduating M.H.A. class chooses to pursue post-graduate fellowship opportunities. These fellowships offer extended leadership and management competency development within health systems and hospitals across the United States.
“This year’s graduating class experienced a high success rate during the fellowship selection process. Many of our students received multiple offers for fellowships from highly-ranked institutions across the country, creating the opportunity for our students to engage in discerning their first major career opportunity. We are very proud of the students and how they represent themselves and our program," said Kristin Wilson, Ph.D., director of the Master of Health Administration program.
Courtney Crubaugh, an accelerated bachelor’s to master’s student, will be working as an administrative fellow with the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. For the next two years, she will be rotating between education, operations and revenue cycle management. Finding the “right fit” for her next step was important to Crubaugh.
“I was looking for a hospital that had a heart and wasn’t just about patient thru-put. Mayo is so patient-centered and patient-focused...it’s really my ideal match,” she says.
At SLU, we have a lot of conversations about ‘organizational fit.’ We learn that it’s OK to turn something down if you’re not comfortable spending your time and your life’s work there. It ties in with the Jesuit idea of discernment and looking at the whole experience,” Crubaugh says.
She notes the SLU M.H.A. program distinguishes itself in its team-based approach to
learning and the “incredibly supportive” team of faculty and peers. “It’s healthy
because it allows you to collaborate, not compete, for the best internships and fellowships...you’re
so excited when you hear about your friend getting a great placement and now we have
this wonderful network across the country.”
