Saint Louis University Appoints Linda M. Warren, Ph.D., as Chair of Renamed Earth, Environmental, and Geospatial Science Department

Saint Louis University’s (SLU) School of Science and Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Linda M. Warren, Ph.D., as the incoming Chair of the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geospatial Science, effective July 1, 2024. This department, formerly known as Earth and Atmospheric Science, is experiencing significant growth in research, academic programs and community engagement within the School of Science and Engineering (SSE).

Warren, a valued member of SLU since 2010, most recently served as the associate chair of the department. She holds a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of California, San Diego, and an A.B. in Geosciences from Princeton University. Her distinguished career includes a Harry Oscar Wood Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Carnegie Institution of Washington and a tenure as an associate program director at the National Science Foundation.

An esteemed seismologist, Warren has secured grants from the National Science Foundation, published in reputable journals, and collaborated with the Earthquake Research Institute in Tokyo, Japan. Her extensive expertise and dedication to the field will now guide the department through this transformative period.

As department chair, Warren will focus on curriculum development, enhancing research initiatives, increasing student enrollment and fostering industry and community partnerships. Her leadership is anticipated to open new avenues for the School of Science and Engineering and SLU, further strengthening our international presence through SLU-Madrid.

Warren succeeds Chuck Graves, Ph.D., whose dedicated service as department chair has been instrumental in laying the foundation for this new chapter. SLU extends its deepest gratitude to Graves for his contributions and leadership.
