Through an NSF grant, SLU in partnership with Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, has created learning modules for experiential learning in structural engineering.
Modules
There are twelve modules broken down into four categories of structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design and foundations. As these are developed, they will be added to the website.

He is author of the textbook Structural Analysis: Skills for Practice, and he is the recipient of several teaching and best paper awards from ASEE, ACI, and ASCE. Jim brings four years of military and industry experience to the classroom and is a registered Professional Engineer.
Ronaldo Luna, Ph.D., P.E., F. ASCE, D.GE
Professor of Civil Engineering and Senior Consultant
Dr. Ronaldo Luna is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Saint Louis University, and he teaches courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in the field of geotechnical and civil engineering. His research interests lie in the dynamic response of soils and liquefaction, geographic information systems in civil engineering, and advances in soil mechanics/foundations, and earthquake engineering. He was a professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO, for fifteen years. Previously he was an assistant professor at Tulane University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1983, from the University of Maryland; and a Master of Science in geotechnical engineering in 1985, from Purdue University. He earned his PhD in 1995 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Luna has practiced as a geotechnical engineer in the west coast and the central US and currently in the region and internationally. He is a registered professional engineer in the states of Missouri, California, and Washington and holds a consulting active practice. He has published over 120 technical papers. Dr. Luna is a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers since 2007 and was recently certified as a Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE) by the Academy of Geo-Professionals.
John Aidoo, Ph.D.
Dr. Aidoo is currently a Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering Department and serves as the Director for Operation Catapult, a pre-college summer program at Rose-Hulman Institute Technology.
Prior to this appointment, he worked as the Bridge Design Engineer at South Carolina Department of Transportation. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Science & Technology, Ghana in 1997 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of South Carolina in 2002 and 2004 respectively.
His research activities include repair and strengthening of buildings and bridges using Advanced Composite Materials, laboratory and field testing of structures and the fatigue behavior of concrete bridges.
Additionally, Dr. Aidoo is a co-advisor for Rose-Hulman’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders, which has completed several humanitarian projects. He also has helped broaden students’ horizons through senior-year global capstone design projects in his native land of Ghana. He does pedagogical research related to humanitarian projects undertaken by both the Civil Engineering Department and Engineers Without Borders.
Current and Former Students
Hana Baban
Hana Baban is a graduate student at Saint Louis University, where she is pursuing a Master's Degree focused in Structural Engineering. Her thesis research investigates the behavior of three-dimensional strain fields of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) through digital image correlation. Hana also currently works as a structural engineer at Jacobs.
