Graduate Admission Requirements

Due to the spread of COVID-19, we will only be accepting electronic application credentials, including official transcripts. We strongly encourage applicants to reach out to their previously attended institutions to determine if they are equipped to send official transcripts to us through an e-delivery service. If the institution has e-delivery capabilities, please follow their process for sending official transcripts to Saint Louis University Graduate Admission. We can also accept transcripts emailed directly to graduate@slu.edu from a prior institution's registrar office as official.

Out of care and concern for our students, we will accept unofficial transcripts to allow for your application to be reviewed for admission. Please send unofficial transcripts as an attachment to graduate@slu.edu. Please include your name and program applied to in the subject line of the email. Official transcripts will be required to finalize your admission, prior to the end of your first semester of enrollment.

Each program will have its own admission requirements, but most will require applicants to:

Complete an online application.

The online application collects education history, writing samples and letters of recommendation. The non-refundable application fee for most programs is $65. The application fee may vary if your program requires application through another system. Contact your program of interest if you are unsure of the specific application requirements.

Submit official copies of all college transcripts.

At this time, only electronic transcripts will be accepted. Contact us at graduate@slu.edu with any questions or concerns.

Meet any specific requirements of your department.

Each department has different requirement standards. Prospective students should contact each school for specific information regarding test score requirements.

Paying for Graduate School

Saint Louis University offers multiple scholarship, fellowship and assistantship opportunities for new and returning graduate students.

  • Fellowships are awarded to newly accepted master's or doctoral-level students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic achievement and potential for success.
  • All assistantships are awarded by the individual programs and not through the Office of Graduate Admission. Please contact the department to which you are applying for more information.

Additionally, SLU graduate students can seek financial support beyond assistantships and fellowships. To qualify for federal student loans, you must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours, meet the eligibility criteria and file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current year. (SLU’s FAFSA code is 002506.)

If you have questions about applying for student loans or need guidance on securing financial assistance for your graduate education expenses, contact Financial Services.
