Kaylee Galindo has helped edit and create textbooks for English learners at schools across Spain at Madrid-based publishing house since January 2025.

"I've always loved books and sincerely hope to work in publishing one day. When looking at the internship options available, I chose to apply for Milton because of the opportunity to work with books and publishing," she said.

Galindo, an English major, landed an internship at Milton Education in January. Her work has contributed to the company's technology-focused future. She recently finetuned an audiobook's AI accent and tone to match the corresponding textbook material for ESO students, equivalent to grades 7-10 in the U.S.

“The first audiobook I produced was 'Peter Rabbit,' an adorable children's book. The second audiobook — and the one I am currently working on — is 'A Christmas Carol,'" she said.

She explained she chose British English accents to enhance students' learning and contextualize the narrators' voices.

"I truly look at textbooks in a completely different way now that I know how much work goes into creating them," said Galindo. "It is also cool to think about Spanish students someday reading things I helped produce. It's been wonderful to have a creative impact."

Galindo credits English professor Carolina Toscano, Ph.D., and career services coordinator Patrice Burns for inspiring her to pursue an internship at Milton Education. "If it weren't for SLU-Madrid I would never have been inspired to pursue an internship, let alone have one with Milton," she said.

"Before SLU-Madrid, my Spanish was also nowhere near a working level. With the help of professors and peers, I've been able to advance my Spanish, gain confidence, and apply my education from SLU-Madrid to my work."
