Match Day 2025
Fourth year students in Saint Louis University School of Medicine participated in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) on Friday, March 21. This pivotal day marked the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance for our medical students as they learned where they will continue their journey as physicians.

Match Day is a highly anticipated event where medical students across the country simultaneously open their envelopes to discover their residency placements. This moment is a rite of passage, signifying the transition from medical student to resident physician. It's a day filled with excitement, joy and anticipation for the future.

2025 Profiles
What drew you to your desired specialty?
I was drawn to OB/GYN due to the variety. I really like the combination of medical and surgical management. I also enjoy the chance to work with women across the age spectrum.
What’s going through your mind as Match Day approaches?
I'm a mix of excitement and nerves. Excited to see what part of the country I will end up in. Excited to potentially do an apartment scouting trip and to meet my co-residents.
What words of wisdom do you have for rising M4s as they gradually find themselves in the position you are in now?
Do away rotations! Make sure your M4 schedule has something fun/that you are really looking forward to. To get inside scoop on programs reach out to recent SLU grads who matched there. While it can be a stressful and even scary process, it'll all work out (or so I've heard and am praying for). When you do feel anxious or nervous, lean on your support system and peers you trust. That helped me so much during interview season and post-interview season. Best of luck class of 2026.
What drew you to your desired specialty?
I realized that ophthalmology was the best combination of the factors I was considering in a specialty: ability to provide both medical and surgical care to patients, ability to interpret imaging, access to advanced technology, a clean, precise, and technical physical exam, highly conducive to global medical outreach, low burnout, great patient outcomes, and excellent lifestyle. It’s also the specialty that is the most fun to me, which is an important but often overlooked consideration when choosing a specialty.
What’s going through your mind as Match Day approaches?
Very relieved for all of us who matched in the early match (military, urology, ophthalmology) and very excited for the rest of us who will find out very soon.
What words of wisdom do you have for rising M4s as they gradually find themselves in the position you are in now?
Always rank programs based on your true preference. Don’t be ashamed or shy by the emotions you feel, you should feel what you want to feel. It’s an uncertain and exciting time but know we’ll all end up where we need to be.
What drew you to your desired specialty?
The specialty surprised me with the variety of procedures and the breadth of practice. There’s a great balance between surgical procedures, outpatient clinic, and medical management, so I’ll have the chance to form long term relationships with my patients.
What’s going through your mind as Match Day approaches?
It’s crazy to think that the day we’ve been working towards for so many years is finally here! It’s bittersweet for sure - I am so excited to see where everyone ends up, but I’m also sad to be leaving the community we’ve built here at SLU.
What words of wisdom do you have for rising M4s as they gradually find themselves in the position you are in now?
You will experience a lot of emotions and a lot of anxiety (I felt like vomiting every single day), but it works out in the end. Fourth year flies by, so make the most of it!
